Today is World Mental Health Day. It’s celebrated every year on October 10th. This year, the World Health Organization has identified the theme of “Mental Health and Old Age.”

The world’s population is aging rapidly, and by the year 2050, it’s estimated that about 22% of the world’s population will be over the age of 60. At the present time, it’s estimated that over 20% of people over the age of 60 experience some sort of mental illness. You can find out more statistics by clicking here.

I thought of sharing an infographic on Mental Illness. Although this infographic is not specific to older adults, the information is still quite relevant to all of us. Although some of the statistics are US-based, they are quite similar to international prevalence rates. The information on the physiology and neurology of mental illness, though, applies to everyone. Hope you enjoy reading it, and I hope you learn something about mental illness.
