I’ve been writing more in these last few weeks than I have in several years. I’ve also been taking a stab at developing a YouTube Channel (You can find all four of my videos there).
Because of the long gap in my writing schedule, I thought I’d share what happened in my life these last few years, and how it’s clarified where I’d like to go with my writing.
Dreams can come true all at once
I received my Ph.D. in Applied Psychology from the University of Calgary in 2008. It was the fulfillment of my first dream. Then, in the spring of 2010, I moved back to Ontario. I started blogging in 2011 as a way to market myself and attract clients to my private practice.
I really enjoyed the feeling of sharing my ideas and thoughts with people from all over the world. But as my practice became busier, I started abandoning the writing process.
Then more dreams starting coming true. In the summer of 2013, I met an incredible woman, and 14-months later, we were married. I remember telling her about my goal to return to my writing and find ways to share my ideas with as many people as possible.
Then in 2016, a couple of dreams came true at once. Sabrina gave birth to amazing twin girls. As any parent will tell you, everything in life changes when you have a child, especially with two. I was ambitious (and perhaps unrealistic) about continuing with writing while my newborns slept, but all I wanted to do was sleep myself.
Counselling and Supervising
After my wife went back to work in September 2017, I transitioned into being a part-time stay-at-home dad. For one year, I worked on my practice twice per week and ran my own version of Daddy Daycare three-days per week.
Amazingly during this time, my practice continued to grow and services expanded. I opened up an office in Whitby, Ontario and started managing other clinicians delivering services under my direction.
Writing on Balance
Because of fatherhood, I’ve developed a deeper understanding of the challenges people face when trying to live a more balanced life. This has led to an “a-ha” moment for me.
So, what’s my ‘a-ha’ moment?
I’ve decided on a new direction for my writing. I’m going to write about how to live a more balanced life. I’ll gather research from the field of psychology and sociology, share personal experiences, and teach people how they can apply it to create more harmony and balance across the many areas of life: work, relationships, physical health, hobbies, mental health, and spirituality.
Posting schedule
My goal is to share and spread knowledge of psychology through my writing, videos, and services. I typically try to send out a newsletter with some tips and strategies every two weeks, and at least one blog post or video per month.
If you haven’t yet done so, I’d love for you to subscribe to my site. You can do so by signing up below, and you’ll receive an ebook on balance in the process.
Thank you!
