Almost everywhere you look, there is some measuring device (or app) or tool.
For example, a thermometer tells you the temperature. A scale tells you how much you weigh, and when you’re on the road driving, your vehicle’s speedometer and odometer can tell your speed and the distance driven, respectively.
But what if you want to know whether or not your life is balanced? How can you tell how far off you are from a balanced life?
That’s where your emotions come in.
Emotions Are A Barometer For Balanced Living
The word ‘barometer’ actually describes a tool for measuring atmospheric pressure. But since the 1800s, the term has been used more figuratively to describe changes in conditions that have nothing to do with the weather.
For example, clothing is a barometer for measuring what is fashionable or not. Your spending habits might be a barometer for the things you value. And the amount of time or energy you spend on a hobby is a barometer for how vital that hobby is for you.
In the same way, I think your emotions are a way of measuring just how balanced your life is and which areas in your life need adjusting.
Specifically, having pleasant and comfortable emotions on an ongoing basis lets you know that your life is close to being balanced, and experiencing unpleasant or uncomfortable feelings consistently is a way of letting you know that your life is imbalanced.
So, when you are feeling sad, stressed, worried, disappointed, or any other emotion that you would consider to be unpleasant, then it’s likely an area of your life – an area of your PROMISE Wheel – is out of alignment.
Conversely, if you’re feeling content, satisfied, comfortable, hopeful, then you are likely living a balanced life or that most parts of your life are in sync with each other.
Life Is About Different Emotions
It’s normal and expected that you would feel sad, annoyed, disappointed, or all of these emotions from time to time. It’s part of being human.
But, when your life is imbalanced, these unpleasant and uncomfortable emotions become the norm rather than the exception.
And that’s when your PROMISE Wheel might need some adjusting.
That’s what this week’s video is about.
Hoping this tip helps with your emotional health and growth.
